What a Bang!!! Another amazing Halloween gathering at the firehall. We’d like to extend a HUGE thank you to the Country Grocer in Chase River. Year after year they supply us with enough hot dogs, and hot chocolate and all the fixings to nourish our community, and what a community turn out it was. Though it seemed a little quieter early on, but by 7:50pm the hall was bustling, the fire was raging and our skilled firemen were armed and ready to fire off another epic display of fireworks at the stroke of 8pm. We also tried something new this year with a “Trick or Treat” procession line. The hall was the last stop on the Halloween trail and a central space where community members near and far who want to handout treats but never get kids could do so and see first-hand all those amazing little costumes and adorable little faces. Thank you to everyone in our community and beyond. If it wasn’t for your support and appreciation, these events wouldn’t happen. So, thank you for showing up, filling up and connecting with one another. You put the LOVE in community. (Yeah yeah…. I know ;)) Finally, thank you to our amazing team of devoted members who showed up to help set-up, take down and clean up, but also thank you for waking up at the ghosting hour of 2:00am and answering the call. From us to you, THANK YOU!
What a busy summer the Cranberry Volunteer Fire Department has had. Our forestry truck, Support 1, spent 6 weeks in Cache Creek and Tender 6 went up to Summerrland for short stint. We are so proud we could serve our province and lend a helping hand and resource. We’d like to thank our members who went on deployment this summer. Some spending 3 – 4 weeks away from their families and businesses’. It’s not an easy gig sleeping in tents and missing the comforts of home, but we are proud of yall. Good job! We have grown stronger as a team and department. We’d also like to thank our spouses and children, parents and business partners and friends. Thank you for stepping up and taking care of all the stuff back home while we were away. We were about to support our province because of your dedication back home. The Cranberry Fire Department left a mark on the communities we protected this summer. We were one of the first crews on scene in the Clinton fire and ourselves and 5 other departments formed a new division within BC Wildfire Service SPU called a Rapid Structure Protection Task Force. We worked long hours, slept in an area with no power those first few nights and needed to be flexible and alert with the rapidly changing fire scene. Members not only stepped up, but they also excelled. Support 1 and its crew was known within the fire ground as a dependable recourse with a dedicated crew. One of our “new” members was also given her first challenge coin this summer. Her strength and tenacity on a property being threatened by fire was witness and praised by a BC Wildfire Service member. She was honored to receive BC Wildfire Services new Structure Protection coin. This was her first deployment and she made us proud. Senior members were able to utilize new training as Engine Boss, which allowed for more crews to go out throughout the wildfire season, as you can’t have a crew without an Engine Boss. Great jobs guys! And lastly, we want to acknowledge the members who stayed back. It’s always a worry when members leave for deployment. Being a small department we depend on every member. At one point there were 8 members out, that’s a lot of bodies away in case a “big” call came in. To the crew who kept us going and attended the calls... Thank you!

Deployment 2026 Our crew is currently deployed in the Clinton area conducting structure protection operations. Great work by Naomi, Liam, and Bart helping protect homes and property in the community. Stay safe out there, team.
It was a busy year for the Cranberry Fire Protection District. Our department responded to a total of 258 calls, ranging from medical, automobile accidents, and structure fires. There were also several instances over the year where we aided outside communities with our resources and manpower. In the early summer, Cranberry Fire Department joined several other departments on Gabriola Island to practice structure protection and wildfire procedures. Those skills were put to use when CFPD was deployed to the Cameron Lake Fire this summer. We showed up in full force on the Nanaimo Lakes Fire and members were ready and willing should a call come in regarding the China Creek Fire. 2025 saw several new faces on the team, each bringing their unique skills and strengths to the Cranberry Fire Department. As our new recruits move through our training program, our team continues to grow stronger, and senior members continue to be valuable resources and mentors to the crew. The Cranberry Fire Department is proud to serve the South Wellington and Area community and regardless the call, we are here to help.
